Cut water use in the garden: New Vitax Water Less

Vitax, the leading garden care specialist, has announced the launch of its latest innovative product, Vitax Water Less.
Showcasing at Glee 2026, Vitax Water Less is designed to save water when caring for the garden. It is formulated to improve water penetration and distribution within all soils and composts, reducing the amount needed to keep a garden healthy and hydrated. It can be used in all types of watering, including with cans, hoses, and irrigation systems, making it perfect for gardens as small as a balcony or as big as an allotment.
The molecules in Vitax Water Less are designed to form a bridge between soil and water, allowing it to be distributed more evenly throughout and deep into plants root zones. The mixture of long, medium and short chain molecules in Vitax Water Less means it can be effective even in very dry soils, tackling stubborn hydrophobic spots in dried out compost, a common issue in peat free composts. As the product is designed to reduce the surface tension of water itself, this allows it to spread further and absorb more effectively, maximising the use of water in the garden and reducing waste.
Vitax Water Less improves moisture spread uniformity, increases water retention in soil, and maximises the efficiency of irrigation and rainfall. The improved use of water in the garden, means less time spent on watering and more time to enjoy the outdoor space. Following a summer of heatwaves and prolonged dry periods, Vitax Water Less is a product designed to help gardeners grow a beautiful space even in more challenging weather conditions. Used throughout the summer, it can even help reduce damage of drought and hose pipe bans so plants stay healthier for longer.
It is suitable for use on all plants, including flowers, herbs, vegetables and climbers to help improve soil moisture retention. It’s ideal for hanging baskets and window boxes, which often suffer with dry soils and need additional watering. Peat free composts used in potting are less prone to drying out and pulling away when Vitax Water Less is used, keeping soil moist for better plant health. Vitax Water Less slowly biodegrades but the soil retains its wetting ability for several weeks., so applying regularly builds up the soil’s water holding capacity
Anja Gooding, CEO of Vitax, said: “Hotter, drier summers are becoming more frequent in the UK, and that makes garden upkeep more challenging and time consuming. Vitax Water Less will help gardeners reduce the time spent watering, while also ensuring more efficient use of water. It’s a win for everyone – better use of limited resources while also reducing time on chores, allowing more time to enjoy the space.
“We’re pleased to be able to launch this new product at Glee with our trade partners being the first to see Vitax Water Less in action.”
