Raymond Evison Clematis RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025
This year RHS Chelsea Flower Show exhibit from Raymond Evison Clematis will not only show a range of clematis cultivars that were bred by Evison®, and Poulsen® during the later part of the 20th century and early part of the 21st century. But also, six outstanding new cultivars that have come from the 2014 Raymond J. Evison Ltd., breeding programme, these too were bred in Raymond’s state of the art, modern and environmentally friendly Guernsey Clematis Nursery.
The seƫting for this year’s exhibit will be an imagery Guernsey sea shore scene with 2,500 clematis in full flower some coming ashore in imitation wooden boats. Each boat carrying a cargo of brightly coloured clematis, on a sea and shoreline comprising of dark blue ,mauve ,and light blue flowered clematis with white clematis flowers representing the crest of the waves or the surf.
Show visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the exhibit on a wooden serpentine walkway where the boats are moored or beached on sand, which will be littered with Guernsey seaweed, pebbles, drift wood, and with the occasional scallop, ormer, or oyster shells, and of course mermaids purses!
The exhibit will feature a fisherman’s hut, traditionally and locally made Guernsey willow fishing baskets, crab, and lobster pots together with a vraic pannier used by donkeys to take vraic (seaweed) to the fields of the islands, in time past.
These amazing baskets are being loaned for the exhibition by Max and Claire Gaudion from ‘Guernsey Willow Baskets’, who still make these heritage craft items, which some of are on the Heritage Craft Red List of endangered heritage crafts.
There will be three outstanding new clematis varieties launched from this year’s Chelsea Exhibit, they are Clematis Elpis EviGsy154 (PBR), an outstanding clematis with deep rich red flowers, which will be released in association with Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) and Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG). Clematis Bridgewater EviGsy155(PBR), a delectable soft pink and Clematis Baroness Fookes EviGsy156(PBR), which has purple/blue blooms with a darker purple bar and ruffled edges. You will find all of their details on the attached plant information sheets.
Once again, we are hugely grateful to Fenchurch Advisory Partners for their longstanding support and sponsorship of our Chelsea Flower Show exhibits, which started in 2013. With their continuing generous sponsorship, we have been able to build and create these outstanding displays, and hope to do so in many years to come.
