Strong results from the private garden centre groups

Each month Gardenforum’s Company Results pages are updated with the latest accounts filed at Companies House. Here is a summary of the companies updated recently. The report includes sales, profit before tax, fixed assets, interest paid, total borrowings and shareholders funds for the last 3 years.

Suppliers / Manufacturers
  • Alexander Rose, recently sold to The Roda Group (see Gardenforum Noticeboard), revealed sales of £9.1m, down for the 2nd year. Profits fell to £96k for the year ending (y/e) Aug 2010.
  • Profits recovered strongly at Castacrete to £741k on sales of £11.2m for y/e Dec 09.
  • Shed manufacturer, Delwyn Enterprises, reported a profit of £1m on sales of £7.3m for y/e Aug 2010.
  • Gisela Graham added 19% to sales reaching £12.5m. Profits held steady at £238k for y/e June 2010.
  • Husqvarna UK reported sales of £127m (-6%) and profits of £4.3m (-34%) for y/e Dec 2009.
  • Profits at J Parker Dutch Bulbs (Wholesale) increased sharply to £2.4m on sales of £17.1m for y/e June 2010.
  • Sales fell 24% at garden furniture distributor Keter (UK) to £35m, losses reduced to £89k for y/e Dec 2009.
  • Oase (UK) increased sales by 16% to £6.8m. Profits held steady at £453k for y/e Sep 2010.
  • Turnover fell sharply for the second year to £7.8m at Rowlinson Garden Products with losses of £580k for y/e Apr 2010. Turnover fell also at Rowlinson Group to £40.7m with losses of £512k.
  • Thompson & Morgan (UK) reported £19.7m adding 20% to last year’s sales. Profits were also higher at £1.5m for y/e June 2010.
  • Woodlodge Products reported a profit of £422k on sales of £5.6m for y/e June 2010.
Garden Centres / Retailers
  • Profits at Burford Garden Centre reached £1m on sales of £8.2m for y/e Jan 2010.
  • Profits at D J Squire & Co increased 34% to £3.7m on sales up 6% to £30.6m for y/e July 2010.
  • Denys E Head returned to profit with £102k on sales of £6.6m for y/e Jan 10.
  • Profits grew 21% at Haskins Garden Centres to £3.4m on turnover of £24.8m for y/e Feb 2010
  • Poplars Nursery Garden Centre increased profits to £492k on sales of £4.4m for y/e Feb 2010.
  • The Barton Grange Group lifted sales 13% to £21.2m. Profits grew to £1.5m for y/e Jan 2010.
  • Sales were static at The Edinburgh Woollen Mill at £157m. Profits shrunk slightly to £22.5m for y/e Feb 2010.
  • The Garden & Leisure Group increased sales to £42.7m and returned to break-even with a small profit of £96k for y/e Dec 09.
  • The Gardens Group increased sales by 5% to £5.8m. Profits doubled to £142k for y/e Dec 2009.
Nurseries
  • Losses reduced at Butters Group to £232k on sales down 14% to £31.6m for y/e June 2010. Keith Butters showed a profit of £558k on the same sales.
  • Profits fell to £41k at Darby Nursery Stock on sales of £5.8m for y/e Jan 2010.
  • Glendale Horticulture reported sales of £3m and losses of £1.3m for y/e Dec 2009.
Other
  • Home Hardware Southwest returned to profit with £231k on sales of £25.3m for y/e June 10.
  • RHS Enterprises added 10% to turnover at £18.7m, yielding a profit of £162k for y/e Jan 2010.
  • Turnover fell for the second year to £6.8m at Whiting Landscape. Profits improved to £136k for y/e June 2010.
