HTA opens applications for Broad Horizons programme

The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) has opened applications for Broad Horizons, a new fully funded development programme designed to build the skills, knowledge, experience and confidence of people working across environmental horticulture.
The first cohort will run from January to December 2027, bringing together eight to 10 participants from across the HTA membership, including growers, garden centres, landscapers, suppliers and manufacturers.
The 12-month programme combines practical workshops, business visits, networking and insights into the sector’s relationship with government and policymakers. Activities include a communications workshop, Parliamentary tour, horticulture business visits and sessions covering workforce development, business operations and public affairs.
HTA Chief Executive Fran Barnes said: “Broad Horizons has been created to open up that opportunity. It will give participants the chance to learn directly from businesses across our membership, develop practical skills and build relationships with people they might not otherwise meet.”
The programme is designed to help participants understand different parts of the horticultural supply chain, while bringing knowledge and ideas back to their own businesses.
Participants will also develop their understanding of leadership, recruitment, workplace culture, finance, supply chains, operational decision-making and how businesses can engage with policymakers.
The programme is fully funded by the HTA as a member benefit, including workshops, site visits, activities, reasonable travel expenses and overnight accommodation where required.
Applications are open to people with at least two years’ experience in their current organisation who are committed to a long-term career in environmental horticulture, demonstrate ambition and potential, and have their employer’s support.
Only eight to 10 places are available for the first cohort, with no more than one participant accepted from each member organisation. Applications opened on 5 October 2026.
Applications open on 5 October 2026 and close on Friday 23 October 2026. The first cohort begins in January 2027.
