Buyers from Dubai, Estonia & France seek UK garden products

The latest ‘Meet the Buyer’ event organised jointly by the Gardenex and PetQuip export federations will provide British suppliers to the garden and landscape product sectors with the opportunity of meeting with a leading garden retailer from Dubai, the largest DIY/building material retailer in Estonia and a French mail-order and internet sales company that specialises in garden products. The event is to follow the highly successful format of one-to-one meetings between suppliers and buyers that has resulted in important overseas business for the British participants at previous meetings.

The next meeting to be held at the Gardenex headquarters in Brasted, Kent, on Wednesday
4 November 2009 will provide British suppliers with the opportunity to present their company and products to the buyers on a one-to-one basis.

The first of the buyers will be from the Dubai Garden Centre, which is the largest garden and plant shop in the United Arab Emirates. A subsidiary of the Desert Group, Dubai Garden Centre is the first western style garden centre in the UAE and provides a one-stop-shop for a wide range of garden products, plants and accessories. The buyer will be seeking garden and landscape products such as oak barrels, railway sleepers, bird feeders and also gift-style products such as soaps, oils and other cosmetics.

The Estonian buyer is from Optimera AS which operates a chain of DIY/building material stores under the name of Ehituse ABC in 17 cities around the country. The range of garden products handled by Optimera includes seeds, pots, tools, soils, fertilisers and accessories. Optimera is seeking suppliers of gardening equipment, landscape design, garden furniture and leisure goods such as barbecues as well as wood and stone materials.

The French mail order company attending the event is i.i.s. France, whose main catalogue has a circulation of 230,000 copies. The company’s product range focuses mainly on practical gardening items such as plant supports, plant protection, greenhouses, watering systems, pest control, organic soil additives, tools, modular decking, border edging, screening and outdoor lighting. The company is seeking other practical and innovative products to add to its range and is particularly keen to meet small UK suppliers.

During the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, member companies of PetQuip, the federation’s export association for the pet product sector, will meet with buyers from Estonia, Dubai and Poland.
Attendees can also take the opportunity to visit the federation’s research library, meet with the Gardenex and PetQuip teams and find out about our programme of initiatives for next year.

Companies who wish to take part in these Meet the Buyer meetings or other events organised by Gardenex and PetQuip should contact The Federation of Garden and Leisure Manufacturers Ltd, the trade association that works on behalf of British companies to help its members increase sales worldwide.
