Squire’s appoints new directors as business looks to the future

Company: Squire’s Garden Centres

Squire’s Garden Centres has announced the appointment of four new board members as part of its continued commitment to strong leadership, retail innovation, and its horticultural heritage.

Ricky Bowness has been promoted to Retail Buying Director, bringing over a decade of experience within Squire’s and a solid background in horticulture and commercial operations. Ross McEwan takes on the role of Retail Operations Director, leveraging nearly 30 years of experience in garden retail, including leadership roles at the RHS and the development of Squire’s e-commerce and sustainability initiatives.

Joining as non-executive directors are Elizabeth Squire, a former Royal Navy officer now working in technology, and Mark Cody, Managing Director of international operations for a US-based insurance broker. Both are members of the founding Squire family, adding external insights while supporting the business’s legacy.

Chairman Sarah Squire commented: "These appointments bring fresh perspectives and deep expertise to our board, strengthening our strategic direction as we approach our 90th anniversary in 2026. I am delighted to welcome Ricky, Ross, Elizabeth, and Mark to their new roles and look forward to their contributions to Squire’s ongoing success."

The Surrey-based family business operates 17 garden centres and two nurseries across the South East and continues to be a respected name in British horticulture.
