Society of Garden Designers announces 2025 Fellowships

The Society of Garden + Landscape Designers (SGLD) has announced its 2025 Fellowships, honouring six leading figures in the profession for their outstanding contributions to garden and landscape design. The SGLD Fellowship is the Society’s highest accolade, recognising Registered Members who have demonstrated sustained excellence, innovation, and leadership in their field.
The 2025 Fellows are Charlotte Rowe FSGLD, Tom Massey FSGLD, Joe Perkins FSGLD, Matthew Wilson FSGLD, Robert Myers FSGLD, and Luciano Giubbilei FSGLD. Each has made a lasting impact on contemporary landscape design and has contributed to the Society’s mission through judging, speaking, and mentoring roles.
Andrew Duff MSGLD, Chair of the Society, praised the recipients for their creativity and vision, saying: “Each of these designers has demonstrated exceptional creativity, vision, and commitment to excellence. Their work has shaped the direction of contemporary garden design and inspired both the profession and the public.”
Charlotte Rowe FSGLD, who established her West London studio in 2004, has designed over 300 gardens across the UK and internationally. A Gold Medal winner at the 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, she has played a leading role within the SGLD, including chairing its communications committee. Rowe described the Fellowship as “a great honour” and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Society’s work.
Tom Massey FSGLD is widely recognised for his sustainable and wildlife-friendly gardens and as a leading voice on resilient design. He lectures widely and mentors young designers, serving as a judge for the SGLD Student Awards. Massey described Fellowship as “a recognition of design as stewardship – a way of caring for the living world and nurturing our relationship with it.”
Robert Myers FSGLD, a seven-time RHS Gold Medal winner and accredited RHS Judge, is known for his sensitive work across historic, urban, and public landscapes. He said he was “delighted” to receive Fellowship and looked forward to “championing beautiful, practical, climate-resilient design.”
Joe Perkins FSGLD, with more than 25 years’ experience in garden design, has long been associated with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and is training as an RHS Judge. His work explores how green spaces can enhance wellbeing and environmental awareness. Perkins said he was “very humbled” by the honour and eager to contribute further to the Society’s mission.
Matthew Wilson FSGLD and Luciano Giubbilei FSGLD complete the 2025 cohort. Wilson, a designer, writer, and broadcaster, has helped shape professional standards and public understanding of sustainable design. Giubbilei, celebrated for his collaborations with artists and architects and his experimental work at Great Dixter, said he was “truly delighted and honoured” by the recognition. Together, the six new Fellows join an esteemed group whose collective work defines the best of contemporary garden and landscape design.
