The Society of Garden and Landscape Designers (SGLD) has revealed a new head judge, an expanded judging panel and a media partnership for the SGLD Awards 2027.

James Scott FSGLD MLI will lead the judging panel as Head Judge, succeeding Richard Sneesby, who has held the role since the Awards were launched in 2012.

A respected garden and landscape designer, Scott founded The Garden Company in 1991 and has extensive experience as an awards judge and SGLD accreditor.

SGLD Awards Chair Lynne Marcus thanked Sneesby for his long-standing contribution and welcomed Scott’s appointment as the Awards continue to evolve.

The Society has also announced a new media partnership with Gardens Illustrated, one of the UK’s leading gardening publications.

As part of the partnership, Gardens Illustrated Editor Stephanie Mahon will join the judging panel, bringing expertise in garden design, horticulture and publishing.

The 2027 panel will comprise 12 professionals from across design, landscape architecture, horticulture, placemaking, publishing and education.

New judges include Sue Townsend, Rae Wilkinson, Tom Hoblyn, Anne Jennings and Stephanie Mahon, alongside returning industry figures from across the sector.

Entries will be assessed for creativity, innovation and excellence, with the Awards continuing to celebrate outstanding achievement in garden and landscape design.
