Company: London College of Garden Design

The London College of Garden Design (LCGD) has announced the appointment of renowned garden designer James Aldridge as the new Course Leader for its prestigious Garden Design Diploma. Aldridge, who has been teaching at LCGD since 2016, will assume the role in September 2025, succeeding Andrew Wilson MBE, who has led the course for 15 years.

James Aldridge is a celebrated garden designer and horticulturalist with a deep passion for plants that began at a young age. He graduated with a degree in horticulture and honed his skills under the guidance of Rosemary Verey, one of Britain’s most esteemed gardeners. Aldridge's career includes a tenure at Highgrove with HRH The Prince of Wales, where he contributed to the garden's most creative and acclaimed period.

Since relocating to London in the late 1990s, Aldridge has established a successful garden design practice, working on diverse projects both domestically and internationally.

Nina Baxter, Director of LCGD, praised Aldridge's appointment, highlighting his extensive experience and the real-life guidance he will provide to students. "We are delighted to welcome James as our new course leader. His transition into this role is a great way to utilize the experience and skills of such a highly regarded garden designer," Baxter said.

Aldridge himself is excited about the new role, stating, "I can’t wait to get stuck into leading this course in September. Being able to share my experience with the garden designers of the future on such a highly regarded course is very exciting."

Andrew Wilson MBE said: “I taught James back in 1999/2000 when he graduated as top student in his class and I knew then he would go on to great things. We have worked together to deliver the Garden Design Diploma over the past few years so I am happy in the knowledge that I am leaving the course in very good hands. I will very much continue to be a part of the college and its teaching and look forward to seeing more of our graduates going on to successful careers in garden design.”

The LCGD is also celebrating the achievements of its graduates, who are set to play leading roles in various RHS Shows this season, including a Gold Medal winner at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival.
