For those in the Barbecue fraternity you will know the name Marcus Bawdon, he is the BBQ whisperer, for those that don’t let me enlighten you.
Part of a large family, Marcus grew up in front of the fire cooking simple honest food in the embers of the fire, Jacket potatoes with charred crisp skin and loads of butter and toasted chestnuts were some of the family favourites, and these flavours have stayed with him, thus fuelling the fire on his food loving journey.
Travelling extensively and exposed to different flavours and cultures he learnt to cook many new styles, expanding his flavour palate. When he moved to Devon with his young family he started to cook more and more in the garden. Campfires, smokers, wood fired ovens all started to become part of his daily cooking routine.
This love of all things fire has built into an all-encompassing passion, so no wonder he was crowned King of Meatopia, one of the UK’s biggest BBQ events.
He loves to show what is possible with flame cooking on simple fire pits to hi tech pellet grills. His website, Country Woodsmoke is jammed packed with great food cooked in the garden and where people learn and share their artisanal techniques. It’s full of recipes, videos in fact everything you need or could want to know about barbecuing. He also runs the UK BBQ School where he teaches everyone from beginners to chefs looking to learn new skills. He is also a BBQ judge at Grillstock, Qfest and Pengrille, his passion for food and fire is all encompassing and that is why we are very lucky to have Marcus with us at this year’s SOLEX show. Marcus will be joining us with his BBQ Magazine Consultant Editor hat on, something else he manages to squeeze into his busy schedule.
Marcus will be judging the Best BBQ Award, interviewing, and filming with our BBQ exhibitors and giving a masterclass in our Loving Outdoor Living Zone. The lucky winners of the Best BBQ Award will receive free marketing within the next issue of BBQ magazine plus a signed copy of Marcus’s new book Food and Fire, where he offers up to 65 bold dishes to cook outdoors.
