Kate Adie CBE to speak at GCA conference

Former BBC Chief News Correspondent Kate Adie CBE has been announced as a speaker at the Garden Centre Association’s (GCA) annual conference in Bristol this month (January 26 until 29, 2020).

Attendees to the conference at Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel will be able to hear from Kate, who now presents From Our Own Correspondent on BBC Radio 4, on Tuesday, January 28.

Iain Wylie, Chief Executive of the GCA, explained: “We’re absolutely delighted to have confirmed Kate as one of our speakers on the Tuesday afternoon of our conference and are looking forward to hearing all about her impressive career.

“As the BBC’s Chief News Correspondent, Kate covered the Gulf War, the demise of the Soviet Union, the protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square and NATO’s campaign in Kosovo.

“She began her career as a technician in radio before being promoted to producer, specialising in arts and farming programmes.

“She then switched to television, directing religious outside broadcasts and sport and reporting for BBC Plymouth. Next came network news, before making her reputation reporting from war zones across the world.”

Aside from her autobiography, The Kindness of Strangers, Kate has published Corsets to Camouflage, Nobody’s Child and most recently Fighting on the Home Front, the Legacy of Women in World War I. She has won the Royal Television Society Journalism Award and the Monte Carlo International Golden Nymph. Kate has also received BAFTA’s Richard Dimbleby Award.

The GCA represents nearly 200 garden centres nationwide.

Through sharing information and its inspection programme, the organisation helps members to achieve high standards in customer service, plant quality and reliability.

The GCA’s 2020 conference will be held at Mercure Bristol, Grand Hotel in Bristol from January 26 until 29 and places can be booked via www.gca.org.uk.
