Yorkshire Garden Centre Group joins David Domoney for TV garden makeover

Company: Yorkshire Garden Centre Group

A Huddersfield mother and daughter have had their dream of a relaxing outdoor retreat restored, thanks to ITV’s This Morning gardener David Domoney and a dedicated team from Pennine Garden Centre in Shelley. The transformation was made even more special as it came after Andrea Turner’s original garden project was derailed by a faulty furniture delivery, leaving the space unfinished.

David, who had worked with Yorkshire Garden Centres earlier this year during a horticulture masterclass, reached out to the Shelley-based team for help. Without hesitation, they offered both plants and people to make the makeover happen. In total, they donated over £1,000 worth of plants and provided eight volunteers to bring the project to life.

The volunteer team included Yorkshire Garden Centres’ Commercial Plant Manager Marc Salama, Marketing Content and Campaign Manager Harriet Hardiment, and five Pennine Garden Centre staff. Working alongside David and his TV crew, they had just two hours to completely overhaul the garden, with the results broadcast live on ITV on 13th August.

The planting scheme brought a holiday vibe to the space, with lush statement plants like Fatsia japonica and Trachycarpus fortunei for structure and impact. These were paired with vibrant Echinacea in the beds and cheerful Chrysanthemums in wall baskets, creating a space that was both relaxing and uplifting.

Marc explained: “The team at Pennine directed David to plants that would work equally well in pots and the raised beds. We’re delighted with the outcome — the lush foliage gives a real holiday feel and the pops of colour lift the whole space.”

Earlier this year, Pennine Garden Centre became part of the Yorkshire Garden Centres family, which also includes Tong, Tingley, Otley, Bingley, and Dean’s York and Scarborough. This latest project is a shining example of their commitment to community, teamwork, and using gardening to make a difference in people’s lives.
