TV gardener visits J. Parker’s Daisy Nook Garden Centre
Manchester garden retailer J. Parker’s hosted TV presenter Frances Tophill at, recently acquired, Daisy Nook Garden Centre in Failsworth for a fundraising event supporting homelessness charity Petrus, alongside a free gardening workshop for local school children.
Frances led a talk on embracing individuality in gardening, followed by a Q&A where attendees shared personal gardening experiences. The event raised £2,000 for Petrus, which helps people affected by homelessness in Oldham, Rochdale, and Burnley.
Workshop for fifty students
She also ran a workshop for fifty students from local schools, teaching practical planting skills and encouraging enthusiasm for gardening among young people.
Frances expressed her appreciation for being part of an event that fosters positive change and supports those experiencing homelessness.
Free monthly gardening club for young people
This event marks the start of J. Parker’s expanded community programme, including more free talks and panel events with guest speakers to benefit local charities and strengthen community ties.
Beginning January 2026, J. Parker’s will launch a free monthly gardening club for young people, as part of broader plans to support local schools and aspiring gardeners.
Edward Doherty, Marketing Manager, praised Frances’ engaging presentation and highlighted the value of introducing school children to gardening and supporting community initiatives.
Edward Doherty, Marketing Manager at J. Parker’s, said “We are delighted to have had Frances pop along today and give such an insightful, fun and interesting talk to local gardeners here in Manchester… In particular, it has been great for the local school children to come along and meet her in person, experiencing first hand her genuine passion for developing the next generation of gardeners. Every one of the children left with a great smile on their face.”
