British Garden Centres’ Tarporley team supplied plants for the DIY SOS Children in Need project, helping create a therapeutic garden at The Joshua Tree’s new centre supporting families affected by childhood cancer.

British Garden Centres has proudly played its part in the latest DIY SOS for BBC Children in Need project, supplying a generous plant donation through its Tarporley Garden Centre. The transformation, broadcast on BBC One, helped expand the facilities of The Joshua Tree, a charity providing vital support to families affected by childhood cancer.

The ambitious build saw a 375m² extension added to the charity’s Northwich centre, doubling its capacity to provide therapeutic services, emotional support, and practical help to more than 300 families across Cheshire and North Wales. Central to this expansion was the creation of a new outdoor therapy garden.

The Tarporley team contributed an extensive selection of plants to help shape the garden’s calming new landscape. These included stunning Rudbeckia cultivars, multiple Miscanthus varieties, Vinca and Bergenia selections, Ajuga and Hosta cultivars, Crocosmia, and aromatic herb thymes, all chosen to cultivate a reflective and restorative environment.

The Joshua Tree’s therapeutic garden now offers families a peaceful space to unwind during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Founded over 20 years ago by Dai and Lynda Hill, the charity has continued to grow its services and impact, inspired by their own family’s experience with childhood cancer.

James Beattie, Centre Manager at Tarporley Garden Centre, expressed deep pride in supporting the project, noting the power of gardens to lift spirits and offer comfort. He highlighted the team’s hope that the donated plants would bring peace and joy to visiting families for years to come.

DIY SOS for Children in Need aired on 13 November and remains available on BBC iPlayer. British Garden Centres, the UK’s largest family-owned garden centre group, continues to champion community support while growing its nationwide presence, now encompassing 73 centres and a team of over 3,000 colleagues.

Green Magic Co.,  14 Nov 2025:
...A lovely project. Well done BGC! Green Magic was also privileged to support this DIY SOS for Children in Need at The Joshua Tree through the donation of twelve automatic hand sanitiser units (these are still recommended for vulnerable situations and immune compromised people).
