Klondyke plans to close Sycamore Park as 3 more centres are set for re-development

Sycamore Park Garden Centre

Klondyke Chief executive, David Yardley, has told Chester Council that the group would close Sycamore Park garden centre sometime in the summer if planning permission is given for a housing scheme.

He was backing an application to build 52 affordable homes on the site at Chester Road, Great Sutton. Cheshire.  (No 18 on the plan)

Of the 22 garden centres in the group this is one of the smallest.  Yardley told the council that the centre was no longer viable due to competition from 3 other centres nearby.

If permission is declined, the centre may continue to trade for a period.

The site currently employs 11 full-time staff and 12 part-time staff.

3 other Garden Centres being re-developed

Moreton Hall Garden Centre in Edinburgh will re-open partially at the end of February after the first phase of redevelopment takes place.  It will be June before it is fully open.  (No 2 on the plan)

In June/July major re-development starts on Polmont Garden Centre at Falkirk that will increase its shop size from 11,000 sq ft to 50,000 sq ft.  It will remain trading during the works.  (No 4 on the plan)

The third garden centre to get a major upgrade is Weaver Vale in Winnington, Northwich.  Plans are shortly to be submitted to the authorities for approval.  (No 19 on the plan)
