Glee timing

Is Glee at the right time of the year? Another Glee is over. Caught up with plenty of old friends and made a few new ones. EVERYONE I spoke to said they wished Glee was in September like it used to be. The end of the gardening season and a preview of the future. Please make your voice heard. Put your thoughts on Gardenforum. You don't need to do more than put your choice; June or September!

Definitely, Sept. We have seen a big decrease in the number of independents attending, and most of the Groups are not ready to talk about next year's supply as the current year has not washed through yet. A complete waste of time in June - no preseason orders or terms can be taken/given, no pricing for 2024 is available any new product launches do not take effect as it is too early to list.....and we are all stressed trying to organise a big stand at what is the peak of trading for our category. Absolute madness having so many key exhibitions all together too. PLEASE LISTEN to the consensus of suppliers and customers before this industry-leading event is ruined for ever !

Back to September please. Buyers are just not ready to be making so many decisions so soon after the peak of the season. September dates were perfect and we looked forward to going into the new season, as it is we go for a tick box exercise as we are local to the NEC. As GLEE is now so small there must be plenty of other exhibition centres which could host the show for a lesser cost.

100% September. Many GC business's (such as ours) carry out half year or financial year end stock takes at the end of June. This can result in some key employees and buyers not being able to attend GLEE at the end of June

September. It's about time that the Glee organizers, the big importers and all the other "June Fans" started to give a bit of consideration to their (potential) customers. Independent retailers will not go to Glee in June. They will go to Glee in September. If you don't give a damn about your customers, stick with June!

I understand the need to be earlier for those wholesalers reliant on Far East factory production lead-times. However many didn't have pricing available so how are retailers expected to make buying decisions? Maybe LOFA and GIMA could put their heads together and let's have just one large show in July.

September 100% The cost of Glee is actually offensive. Try Four Oaks in Cheshire, early September. The organizers are helpful, they give lunch to the exhibitors and there is a constant flow of trays of tea, coffee and squash. It's all under glass, so there is a real gardening atmosphere!

Logic says that earlier should be better, and with enough forward planning suppliers should be fine. But there are two big caveats to that, don't clash or get too close to Spoga, or Solex, and more importantly if the customers (garden centres) don't want it in June for gods sake listen. On another point the cost of glee is horrific, and really cannot be justified, it is one big reason people are reducing stand sizes or not attending at all. Other sectors have shows at the nec and the costs are way lower. European shows are also generally much cheaper, even after factoring in increased travel costs. This also needs addressing urgently.

100% September.
7 Jul 2023,  Or maybe....
3rd option.... early July?

September 100%. So many faces missing and next June will be worse. More suppliers dropping out and buyers not going as wrong time of year.

September. Almost everyone we spoke to said the same but will Hyve listen to their customers and the attendees?! It’s been the second flat June GLEE. We are seriously questioning the value of attending a third.
1 Jul 2023,  Mark
100% September
