Garden centre accountant given suspended sentence for stealing £76k

Birmingham live reports on the case of a long-serving garden centre accountant who stole £76,000 to pay for booze and gambling.

Karen Boliver was chief accountant for Halls Garden Centre in Chester Road, Sutton Coldfield for 36 years. For the last 6 she had syphoned off the money to pay for her addiction to gambling and alcohol.

When her crime was discovered by a colleague, while she was on leave, she immediately admitted her guilt.

She was sentenced to two years jail, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work.
