The new Artisan Bee Hotel made from recycled saris are Fair-Trade products that help the disadvantaged women in Bangladesh who make them by hand.

30th May 2023, Wildlife World, based in Chavenage, Nr Tetbury, Gloucestershire, is continuing it’s support of Fair-Trade, fair wages and environmental responsibility with its Artisan Bee Hotel pre-released in April. Following the huge popularity of our award-winning Artisan Nesters the handmade planters are made by the same artisans with renewable and recycled materials and create opportunities for economically disadvantaged women in Bangladesh.

Mark Pitman, Managing Director at Wildlife World, explains, “Solitary bee hotels are of great importance in the UK for bees for several reasons. Firstly, they provide crucial nesting sites for solitary bee species, which represent a significant portion of the bee population. These hotels offer shelter and protection, allowing bees to lay their eggs and raise their young in a safe environment. Secondly, solitary bee hotels contribute to pollination by attracting a diverse range of bee species. This helps to enhance the overall health and resilience of ecosystems, supporting biodiversity and food production. world.”

Working with Fair Trade organizations is essential for several reasons. Firstly, Fair Trade ensures that producers in developing countries receive fair compensation for their products, enabling them to improve their livelihoods and communities. Secondly, it promotes sustainable practices, such as environmental conservation and the use of organic methods, reducing the negative impact on ecosystems and climate change. Thirdly, Fair Trade organizations prioritize social justice, advocating for safe working conditions, gender equality, and the prohibition of child labor. By supporting Fair Trade, consumers and businesses contribute to a more equitable and ethical global trade system that prioritizes the well-being of people and the planet.

Mark continues, “Finally, and arguably most importantly for the continued conservation and wildlife diversity of the UK, these Artisan Bee Hotels serve as educational tools, raising awareness about the importance of bees and encouraging conservation efforts to protect these essential pollinators.”
