Westland explains what Sinclair brings to the group

Westland’s Edward Conroy has outlined his plans for Sinclair, saying there is a lot to do at Ellesmere Port.  The company is suspending the use of green waste.

I totally agree with Suzanne, well said.....about time it was explained a bit more than what is normally published.

It seems disappointing that a major growing media manufacturer like Westland still talks about removing green waste in a recent Press Release, indeed it seems to show their naivety about the product. Green waste is what goes into a recycling bin or site directly from the garden i.e. grass cutting, hedge trimmings etc. Green waste NEVER goes into a growing media The waste has to go through a rigorous process of composting and checks before it can be considered for use in a growing media. Once it has been fully composted and passed tests for pathogens, physical and chemical contamination and indeed growing trials can it become a PAS100 certified ingredient that can be blended into a growing media. At this point the product is no longer a waste but a certified recycled product called Green Compost. Green compost has a number of benefits over some other ingredients. It is recycled, plentiful in supply, cost effective and has a dark friable nature so blends easily with peat and looks natural to a consumer when they open a bag of compost. Even better it comes with some built in nutrients for free. All other major manufacturers supplying the UK as part of their peat reduction policy use green compost in their products and have done so successfully for years. They have plenty of evidence to show it gives fantastic results and can be extremely consistent if sourced and manufactured properly. Indeed Which Garden trials have backed that evidence up with Best Buys being given repeatedly to brands containing Green Compost. Looking at the results this year of the two of the three manufacturers that got Best Buys use Green Compost. Of the 13 products that got Don’t Buys at least 9 were manufactured by a companies that don’t use Green Compost. These results speak for themselves.
